Growing up, I loved when we made fires in the evening. My mom has a real wood burning fireplace and each year as the temperature dropped, she would light a fire in the evening. My brother and I would fold the newspaper in jacob's ladders (careful to leave out the comic, if unread) and put them into the ashes before my mom and stepdad added the wood and got it roaring. Then we would take off our socks and stick our feet up on the hearth to soak in the warm. It was always a test to see whose feet could stay up there the longest, since they would get toasty mighty fast!!
Now, obviously my condo has no fireplace (dang Californian design plan!). When I was originally shopping for a TV stand, I wanted to find one that had a built in fireplace. Alas I never found one I liked (at a price I liked!) so I settled for a regular ol' wood one. Still, when the weather gets cold I do miss warming my feet.
Therefore I decided to get a fireplace! Unfortunately, it is a non-heat-emitting one :)
I can't wait until I start getting Christmas cards in the mail so that I can hang them above my new "fireplace"! I strung some green ribbon from the dollar bin at Michael's so that I can just pop them up there when they come in and then I can enjoy them every time I come in from a cold winter's day.
This is so cute. You should put a shelf on the wall for a mantle. Love it!
ReplyDeleteGood idea! But this probably wont stay up forever so I dont think Ill bother
DeleteI love it! You are so creative. :)
ReplyDeleteOr I have too much time on my hands! :)
DeleteI'd forgotten about the Jacob's ladders! We're still building real toasty fires but we just crumple the paper (leaving the comics out of course).
ReplyDeleteThis is so perfect!! I love how quirky it is. What a great use of a chalkboard wall.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I have too much fun with this wall!
DeleteWhat a great idea! You've got me wishing I had a chalkboard wall so I could do the same!
ReplyDeleteI recommend chalkboards for everyone!!
